Andrea's Landscape Odyssey: From Orland Hills to New Lenox
Andrea’s journey through landscape transformation began in 2007 when she entrusted us with her Orland Hills home (shown at the end of this story). Then, a decade later, she sought our expertise once again on a new chapter in New Lenox.
In 2016, Andrea embarked on this new chapter, acquiring a lot in New Lenox to build her forever home. With visions of an expansive outdoor sanctuary, she turned to us once again to transform her dreams into reality.
Yearning for a luxurious outdoor living space, Andrea expressed her desire for an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, and possibly even an inground pool. Eager to surpass her expectations, we delved into the creative process, crafting three design options that captured her vision.
But Andrea’s aspirations knew no bounds. Inquisitively, she pondered the inclusion of an inground pool, acknowledging the current budget constraints but yearning to visualize the possibility. Undeterred, we meticulously crafted a master plan that seamlessly integrated her desires, excluding elements she deemed unnecessary while amplifying those she cherished.
Enamored with the master design, Andrea embraced a phased approach, beginning with Phase 1. With a focus on enhancing curb appeal, we planted trees and constructed a driveway, setting the stage for future transformations.

Phase 2 saw the realization of Andrea’s outdoor oasis, as the outdoor living space, kitchen, and fireplace took shape, inviting friends and family to gather and create lasting memories.
As 2018 dawned, Andrea’s determination reached new heights as she resolved to save for Phase 3, the final touches on the front yard makeover. With the patio completed, she eagerly awaited the fall installation of carefully selected plants, further enhancing her home’s curb appeal.
But it was Phase 4 that truly encapsulated Andrea’s unwavering commitment to her vision. In 2019, against all odds, she saw her pool dream come to life, a testament to her perseverance and dedication.
Returning in 2020, we put the finishing touches on Andrea’s landscape masterpiece, adorning the property with understory plantings, breathing life into every corner of her outdoor sanctuary.
From the cozy confines of Orland Hills to the sprawling grounds of New Lenox, Andrea’s landscape odyssey stands as a testament to the transformative power of vision, determination, and innovative design. Each phase tells a story of evolution, resilience, and the pursuit of timeless beauty.
Andrea's Landscape Evolution: Orland Hills Oasis
Andrea’s journey through landscape transformation began in Orland Hills, where dreams collided with challenges, shaping a unique outdoor oasis.
Confronted with a small yard and big dreams, Andrea sought to differentiate her Orland Hills residence from neighboring homes. The property’s slope towards the house raised concerns, prompting a complete re-engineering of the yard’s layout.
In 2007, Andrea entrusted us with her front yard makeover, aiming to enhance curb appeal and stand out in the neighborhood. We meticulously curated plant selections and design elements, creating a distinct landscape that set her home apart.
However, the real challenge awaited in the backyard during phase 2. With a desire for an outdoor living space and a concern for water drainage, Andrea envisioned an innovative solution. We rose to the occasion, crafting an outdoor oasis that defied the property’s natural slope.
Our design incorporated a built-in grill and seating area, strategically positioned at the foundation’s level, pitching away from the house to ensure proper drainage. Hand-selected outcroppings formed a unique retaining wall, elevating the planted half of the yard while directing water flow towards a central drain tile.
The project exemplified our shift from landscape maintenance to landscape design, as we enrolled in the Horticulture program at the University of Illinois in 2005. Andrea’s Orland Hills oasis became a testament to our commitment to creating innovative landscape solutions.
From the humble beginnings of the Orland Hills makeover to the grandeur of the New Lenox outdoor retreat, Andrea’s journey reflects the transformative power of landscape design, where every challenge becomes an opportunity for creativity and excellence.

Why scott flanagan landscape is the right choice
Typical landscape companies operate with one salesperson, no landscape designers, and several small crews handling multiple projects simultaneously.
At Scott Flanagan Landscape, we operate differently. With two dedicated designers and a six-person installation team focused on one project at a time, we ensure quality and efficiency. While one designer in the office, Scott is able to oversee the on-site crew, guaranteeing a high-quality final installation and minimizing disruption to your daily life.
